Policy
It is the policy of VIA Centers for Neurodevelopment and the Commonwealth of Virginia that personal information will be collected only to the extent necessary to provide the service of benefit desired; that only appropriate information will be collected; that citizens shall understand the reason the information is collected and be able to examine any personal records maintained.
Procedures
The VIA Website
Any information collected by the VIA website belongs to VIA. If you make an online donation, personal information will be collected from you in order to process that donation. The software used to process any credit card transaction has internet security verification to ensure that your credit card is not at risk of being compromised.
The VIA website:
- Does not require you to provide any personal information to download files or reports or to view any of our pages.
- May collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us in order to provide you with services or information you specifically request, processing payments, sending email marketing newsletters, analytics, or customer service. Should you not desire to provide this personal information, we may be unable to provide you with the services or information that you have requested. Information collected may include:
- Identifiers, such as real name, alias, postal address, online identifier, email address, or other similar identifiers
- Personal Information categories such as name, address, telephone number, financial information
- Donor information
- Miscellaneous information (professional bio, obituaries, personal correspondence)
- Categories of protected classifications under the law, such as age, race, color, ancestry, national origin, citizenship, religion or creed, marital status, sex, and/or sexual orientation
- Will use information provided by you only for specified purposes that may include anonymous reports and summaries of the data collected.
- Will not place a “cookie” on your computer.
- Will not track your personal movements through the website.
- May contain other links to websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of sites other than www.viacenters.org.
Data Storage and Third Parties
VIA may utilize third party services, such as Google, to store and maintain personal information data. As such, data may be shared with the following third party categories:
- email marketing vendors
- customer management systems such as Raiser’s Edge
- website developers
- financial transaction processors
- content management systems.
Any personal information provided for business purposes will be kept as VIA’s sole and exclusive property and will not be used for any purpose except as intended within the direct business relationship. Third party services have their own privacy policies, including but not limited to the collection of device-specific information, location information, and cookie-related information. We do not accept responsibility or liability for these policies.
Purpose for Disclosure of Personal Information
We may disclose the personal information provided to us to third parties for business purposes, such as to:
- Fulfill the need for which the information was provided
- Provide you with information, products, or services that you request from us submitted in any online form contained on our website
- Provide you with email alerts, advertising or marketing and other notices that may be of interest to you
- Provide VIA with analytic services and statistical information
- Protect against security incidents
- Verify and maintain the quality and safety of our website and services
- In any circumstance where disclosure may be required by law
Sale of Personal Information
We will not sell personal information collected. We have not sold personal information we collected in the last 12 months. We do not have any actual knowledge that we sell the personal information of minors, including those under 13 years of age.
Protection of Personal Information
Personal Information is protected at VIA by the following security measures:
- Only personal information that is strictly necessary is collected.
- Regular risk assessments
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.
IP Address/Tracking
Your IP address does not contain or reveal personal information about you. Information such as your name, address, or phone number cannot be obtained through your IP address alone. VIA’s web servers log all website visitors’ IP addresses to automatically collect information about usage of the website. This information is collected only to help administer our website and server, track website usage/traffic patterns, and identify ways to make our website more useful. Information is never used to track or monitor individual users.
Email Correspondence/Online Forms
Any email messages you send to VIA, including your email address, are kept private and will not be disclosed to third parties. Unless specified by the form, all information submitted to VIA using any of our online information collection forms (including donation, job/internship applications, admissions, mailing lists, order forms) are kept private and will not be disclosed to third parties, sold or distributed.
Targeted Advertising
We do not engage in targeted advertising based on the information we collect.
Privacy Rights
The VCDPA allows for consumers to request that the controller of their personal data:
- Confirm if the controller is actually processing their personal data.
- Correct inaccuracies in the consumer’s personal data that is collected by the controller.
- Delete personal data provided by or obtained about the consumer.
- Obtain copies of the personal data collected by the controller.
- Opt out of the processing of personal data for purposes of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, or further profiling.
Choice/Opt-Out
If you wish to remove your name from our database, you may do so by contacting us via telephone or email with your request. We will remove your information from our database as soon as possible.
Changes to the Privacy Policy
From time to time, it may be necessary for VIA to change our privacy policy. VIA reserves the right to amend this policy to reflect the current state of services, the operation of VIA servers and technology, and/or to keep current with any legal requirements related to online privacy. This policy will be updated as changes are made, and the date of revision will be noted in the Revision History section. Changes will not be retroactively applied and will not alter how we handle previously collected information.
